You know the theory. You’ve read the books, done the courses, you know that feelings aren’t always reliable, but knowing that doesn’t stop you acting on them anyway.
You’re not alone. We all do it.

That flat feeling that says you’re out of touch. The dread before a call that convinces you it’s going to go badly. The heaviness that tells you your business isn’t working, the relationship’s stuck, you’ve fallen behind. You know, intellectually and theoretically, that a feeling is just a temporary chemical signal, often about something completely unrelated to what it’s attached itself to. Yet, in the moment, it feels factual and something you should listen to.
A feeling is a report on your internal state, not a verdict on your external reality.
A feeling can tell you you’re tired, under-resourced, triggered, dysregulated. It cannot reliably tell you your business is failing, your relationship is doomed or you’re not cut out for what you’re doing. Those are conclusions and you’ve been building conclusions out of chemical sensations.
Let’s not try to stop the feeling – You can’t, and you wouldn’t want to. Instead you could ask yourself -‘What would I think if I weren’t feeling this right now?’
We are separating the data from the story. Let the feeling exist, as it is. It might be a feeling of flatness, dread, heaviness, whatever it is, look underneath it, for what you actually know to be true when you’re not this tired, this triggered, this low.
You do know, because you’ve done the work. You have evidence of what you’re capable of, what’s actually going on and what you’ve already achieved. Go back to what you already know and let it overcome what you currently feel.
You don’t need to feel motivated to be right about your own life. You just need to stop mistaking the feeling for the verdict.
If this resonated with you, come and do the work of separating the information from the story properly. I’m running – the Reset – online workshop Sat & Sun 3 & 4 October 2026.
We’ll go through exactly this: getting back to what you know, underneath what you’re currently feeling.
Take a look at the RESET.
